Duvall Historical Society

Duvall Historical Society

Founded in 1976, the Duvall Historical Society preserves, records, and promotes the history of Duvall and the lower Snoqualmie Valley. This all volunteer nonprofit is the reason so much of the town's history is still standing and still tellable. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Led by President "Country" Marilyn Roney (2026-2027 term), DHS cares for two of the valley's most important landmarks. The Dougherty House, built in 1883 and on the National Register of Historic Places since 2004, is open to visitors Sundays 1pm to 4pm, May through September. They also maintain the Pioneer Cemetery at Novelty Hills, established in 1905, where many of the valley's first families are buried. ๐Ÿ“š In 2024 they published "The Wonder of Duvall," an illustrated history of the town. Rob Holdeman leads the popular "Roots of Duvall" historic walking tours each summer. ๐ŸŽ‰ Annual traditions include the Twilight Tour at Novelty Hills Cemetery, the Easter Egg Hunt at the Dougherty Farmstead (title sponsored by Buddy Buck Real Estate and the City of Duvall), and the Harvest Festival. Heritage work like this doesn't fund itself. DHS is supported by 4Culture King County. Mail goes to PO Box 385, Duvall, WA 98019.

Miller's Carnation

Miller's Carnation

Miller's calls itself "a gathering place," and in historic downtown Carnation, that is exactly what it has become. Nancy Colton and Bill Pritchard opened it after twenty years living in town, wanting a venue right on Main Street, with help from Jules Hughes, Lee Grumman, and the community around them. Nancy is an award-winning singer-songwriter who has played The Gorge, the Tractor Tavern, the 5th Avenue Theatre, and Bumbershoot, and works as a baker and herbalist besides. Bill previously owned Madison's Cafe & Music House in Seattle, has produced well over 1,000 events including Bumbershoot, and founded Mosaic Catering back in 2002. The calendar reflects that background: live music most weekends, an outdoor summer stage series, country line dancing, open mic nights with no cover, community dinners, and art and educational classes. It is not just background music either, touring acts book Miller's on purpose, and the room takes its sound seriously. The 1,500 square foot space also rents out for private events, up to 99 guests, with bistro seating, three conversation areas, a full sound system with a sound engineer, and free WiFi. Rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, baby showers, grad parties, memorials, weddings, movie nights, and live theater have all used the room. Rates run $495 for four hours on weekdays and $645 on weekends and holidays, plus $100 per additional hour and a $120 cleaning fee, and Bill's own Mosaic Catering handles the food with a complimentary proposal on request. The recognition has followed: 2024 Best Rural Small Business in King County, 2025 Best Meeting & Event Space from 425 Business, and 2025 Best Live Music/Entertainment from the Snoqualmie Valley Record. Miller's was also one of the six stops on the 2026 Carnation Concert Crawl, hosting Blessing Bled Chimanga's set in the afternoon lineup.
